Earl Sweatshirt
12.08.25
Toronto, ONThis one's for the Odd Future kids. Earl pops up every few years with an album, but this was the first time I've been able to catch him live. His new record is called Live Laugh Love, and this was his Toronto stop at History.
The show felt a lot like Denzel Curry's in Vancouver earlier this year. Tons of openers, maybe too many if you ask me, since here we had four of them here before Earl came out. But it was unique in that all the performers were hanging out on stage throughout all the sets, including Earl. So yeah, the openers were Cletus Strap, Niontay, ZelooperZ, and Liv.e. Hadn't heard of any of them, save for ZelooperZ with his feature on Earl's track "Vision". Not going to lie, the crowd got pretty antsy waiting around. You could sense the performers getting miffed when their attempts to hype up the Monday crowd proved to be futile.
But it turned around once Earl came out. Never have I heard an artist refer to Toronto as The Six so many times. But it was out of love, I could tell. The highlight of his set for me were "2010" and "Grief". Both older tracks, since I haven't really latched onto anything from Live Laugh Love yet. Doris fans may have been displeased, since he only played Molasses from that record. But we can't live in the past!
